On October 31 at 1:44 PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 13400 block of Orangewood Dr. in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a shooting. Upon arriving at the residence, officers observed a 51-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body and provided immediate first aid until rescue personnel arrived. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The initial investigation revealed the victim was inside the home when he heard a loud noise by the front door. Upon checking, the victim observed an unknown man smashed the glass screen door and was attempting to force his way into the home. The victim immediately confronted the suspect who then retrieved a firearm and while the two men struggled over the firearm, a round was fired which struck the victim. The suspect fled prior to police arriving in the area. No additional injuries or property damage were reported.
