On May 4 at 12:51AM, officers responded to the ABC Store located at 13991 Jefferson Davis Hwy in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate an alarm activation. Upon arriving at the business, officers observed damage to the front window. Video surveillance revealed that a man, later identified as the accused, used a brick to smash the window, before entering the business where he took bottles of alcohol and fled on foot. While canvassing the area, officers located a man matching the description of the accused in a nearby parking lot. When officers attempted to detain the accused, he actively resisted and fled on foot. After a short foot chase and a brief struggle, the accused was taken into custody without further incident. During the encounter, the accused pushed and struck the officers. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Darryck Dawayne Edward SMITH, was arrested. The accused was also found in possession of suspected illegal narcotics.
