Child Neglect | Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – 8386 Sudley Rd. in Manassas VA

Damian Antonio WOODSOn August 20 at 6:54 PM, officers responded to Walmart located at 8386 Sudley Rd. in Manassas (20109) to investigate larceny. The investigation revealed a man with four children was observed by loss prevention officers concealing merchandise inside multiple backpacks. The man, later identified as the accused, then gave each of the three older children, a 13-year-old male juvenile, a 12-year-old girl, and a 6-year-old girl, a backpack containing the unpaid items. The children then walked past the point of sale with the unpaid items and attempted to exit the store through separate doors. The loss prevention officers stopped the children without incident. Officers located the accused and the fourth child, a 4-year-old boy, with additional unpaid items. While investigating the incident, the accused provided false identifying information to officers. When officers attempted to take the accused into custody, the accused pushed the officers and fled on foot, leaving the children in the store. Officers located the accused near another nearby business where a brief struggle ensued before the accused was taken into custody. No injuries were reported. While escorting the accused to a police cruiser, he made threats to harm the officers. The children were turned over to a guardian. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Damian Antonio WOODS, was arrested.
