On March 6 at 8:05PM, officers responded to Macy’s inside the Manassas Mall located at 8270 Sudley Rd. in Manassas (20109) to investigate an alarm activation. A store employee contacted police upon receiving an alarm notification and observing an unknown man, later identified as the accused, inside the store. Video surveillance revealed that the accused entered the mall through the side door which was found unsecured. Once inside the mall, the accused entered three different stores, Macy’s, a kiosk, and Cinnabon, where he took property before fleeing. While investigating the incidents, officers identified the accused and responded to his residence. When officers made contact with the residents of the home, the accused initially tried to flee before returning to the home and barricading himself inside. After a short time, the accused exited the home and was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Hugo Adonis GUZMANPANIAGUA, was arrested.
