Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation *INCIDENT UPDATE – 14700 block of Fox Glove Ct in Woodbridge VA

As the investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 14700 block of Fox Glove Ct in Woodbridge on September 1 progresses, preliminary details are being released to keep our community informed of the events prior to the shooting taking place. On this day, arrangements were made through a confidential informant and an undercover Manassas City detective assigned to a multi-agency narcotics task force to purchase a large quantity of suspected Fentanyl pills and at least one firearm. Three men met the detective in the above area in a separate vehicle where one of the men, identified as Jalil Michael TURNER exited and got into the detective’s vehicle. After a brief encounter, TURNER exited the vehicle before returning a short time later with one of the other men, identified as Jaiden Malik CARTER, with TURNER getting into the front passenger seat and CARTER the backseat. At one point during the conversation, TURNER produced a handgun demanding the money from the detective and additional property. A third man, identified as Shane Dareon POLLARD, remained in the driver’s seat of the other vehicle, and repositioned his vehicle behind the detective’s vehicle. During the interaction, CARTER ordered the detective to open the trunk to look for the money that was to be used in the transaction. Both men took property from the detective, to include the money, before getting into the other vehicle occupied by POLLARD. All three men attempted to flee in the vehicle just as additional detectives were converging on the location to make the arrest. Two handguns, one which was illegally modified to be fully automatic with an extended magazine, were located at the scene. These events lead up to the exchange of gunfire with police which continues to be led by the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). Additional details surrounding the shooting aspect of the incident will be released as information becomes available. At this time, CIRT investigators have obtained charges against TURNER and POLLARD for robbery in connection to the initial robbery altercation which ultimately resulted in the death of CARTER. Both men are in police custody, POLLARD remains hospitalized. During the investigation, POLLARD was also determined to be wanted on active warrants from an unrelated carjacking that occurred in October 2021 involving a known party. Investigators continue to ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to contact police. The investigation continues.
