On May 4 at 2:28PM, officers responded to the 7500 block of Helmsdale Pl. in Manassas (20109) to investigate a shooting. Residents reported to police that gunshots were heard before two vehicles were seen driving away at a high rate of speed. While investigating, officers were informed that an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man were at the hospital receiving treatment for gunshot wounds. Both men are expected to survive. Neither man was cooperative with officers during the investigation. The investigation revealed that while in the parking lot of the above area, the suspect and a group of individuals were involved in a verbal altercation. At some point during the encounter, the suspect fired multiple rounds towards the group, striking both men, before fleeing. The men were transported by acquaintances to an area hospital before police arrived at the location. A police K-9 and helicopter assistance from Fairfax County police searched for the suspect who was not located. Shell casings were located in the grass area near the parking lot. No additional injuries or property damage were reported. The only suspect description available is a male wearing dark-colored clothing. At this time, the incident does not appear to be random.
