On April 28 at 5:20PM, officers responded to the Broadstone at River Oaks Apartments located in the 3100 block of Chesapeake Dr. in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a shooting in progress. Upon arriving in the area, officers located a 22-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Rescue personnel responded and transported the victim to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation revealed that while in the above area, the victim and a female acquaintance were involved in a verbal altercation when a male acquaintance, identified as the accused, intervened. During the encounter, the accused brandished a firearm and then fired a round that struck the victim’s vehicle. At the time of the shooting, the vehicle was occupied by two women, a 21-year-old and 22- year-old, who were not injured. The victim then retrieved a baseball bat from the trunk of the vehicle and a physical altercation between the victim and the accused ensued before the accused fired additional rounds, striking the victim. The accused quickly got into the initial female acquaintance’s vehicle, and they attempted to flee the area. Responding officers stopped the vehicle in the area of Jefferson Davis Hwy. and Beacon Ridge where they took the accused into custody without incident. No additional injuries or property damage were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Sanda Chukwujieze MADUAKOR, was arrested.
