On May 9 at 7:36 PM, officers responded to MOTEL 6 located at 17133 Dumfries Rd. in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a shooting. The investigation revealed two residents of the motel were involved in a verbal argument in the parking lot. After a brief physical altercation, the two men eventually separated and returned to their rooms after being confronted by management. A short time later, a second encounter between the two men occurred at one of the party’s rooms. During that encounter, one of the residents, a 44-year-old man, reportedly displayed a knife and was shot by the other resident, who was identified as a 34-year-old man. Police were immediately called by witnesses to the incident. Officers arrived at the motel and located the man who had been shot. The man was transported to an area hospital where he refused treatment. The man eventually returned to a hospital later in the evening to receive treatment where his injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. The other party remained on scene and was not injured. At this time, the investigation continues pending consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office regarding possible charges.
